GOP mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa is reaching out to Andrew Yang voters after many of them were upset by a nasty Democratic primary in which their candidate finished a disappointing fourth place.
“Andrew Yang and all of you in the Yang Gang, I want to congratulate you for running such a spirited and proactive campaign in which you were all happy warriors,” Sliwa, 67, said in a video statement after the election.
Sliwa touted that he shares their view that universities currently not paying any city property taxes should do so, and he highlighted footage of Adams mocking Yang during the campaign.
“Together, we can root out corruption and finally upset the #NYC political establishment.” he added in a tweet.
After spending months leading the mayor’s race, Yang earned just 12 percent of the total vote, according the latest results. A planned victory party at the YOTEL New York hotel quickly turned funereal, with Yang conceding on election night.
“The Yang Gang has to do everything possible to STOP ADAMS who would be a disaster for NYC,” tweeted one influential pro-Yang account with nearly 13,000 followers.
“Follow his Republican opponent @CurtisSliwa who actually supports more of Andrew’s policies.”
People close to Yang’s campaign said while there was some genuine overlap between the candidates, they doubted Sliwa could win over his supporters.
“I don’t think [Sliwa] has the pulse of Yang Twitter. I am skeptical he is going to get traction with our guys,” one former staffer told The Post.
