Cruz’s Apparent Cancún Getaway Amid Texas’ Power Crisis During Snowstorm Draws Fury

Millions of Texans have been left without electricity and heat in the frigid weather for more than 48 hours now due to a severe snowstorm that overwhelmed Texas’ power grid, causing outages statewide.

“I got no defense,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted with a shrug emoji on Tuesday in response to an article on how he’d mocked California’s power outages last year. “A blizzard strikes Texas & our state shuts down. Not good. Stay safe!”

Then he apparently jetted off to sunny Mexico like a modern-day Marie Antoinette the next day.

Photos that seemed to show the Texas GOP senator on a plane to Cancún spread like wildfire online on Wednesday night, and the outrage swelled to the point where Cruz’s name began trending on Twitter with Beto O’Rourke, Cruz’s former Democratic challenger who has been organizing a campaign to assist elderly Texans during the crisis, and “What a POS” (“piece of shit”):
