Crosby ISD is lending a helping hand when it comes to digital learning to start out the school year.

The district announced on Thursday that it will allow students to come to several campuses in the district to use the WiFi in the parking lots to complete their coursework. Students will begin class remotely on Aug. 13 to begin the 2020-2021 school year. Beginning on Sept. 4, families that opted into online learning will remain at home, while other students begin face-to-face courses.

The district is calling the program Park-N-Learn. It includes 24/7 access to WiFi for staff and students who can join the network by using their Crosby ISD login info.

The seven schools that will offer Wi-Fi are Crosby High School, Crosby Middle School, and the Stadium home parking lot at Crosby Elementary. Additionally, access will be provided at Barrett Elementary, Drew Elementary, Newport Elementary and Crosby Kindergarten.

The district is hopeful that the Park-N-Learn spots will help provide Wi-Fi access for the students with limited or no internet access at home. The initiative is important within Crosby, where about 48 percent of families qualify for free or reduced lunch, according to the Texas Education Agency.

The district originally purchased MiFi devices, which would allow students to have their own private hotspot if the student didn’t have access to the internet at home. Until the Mifi devices arrive, the Park-N-Learn will be an interim solution for internet access issues for the district.

Make sure to check the district website on where to park at each campus to use the WiFi.
