Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on the tragic death of his baby son back in April as more clips from his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan were released.

He was asked by Morgan how the death of his son shortly after his birth had affected him, with Ronaldo taking time away from Manchester United. The attacker was supported at the time by the football community, with Liverpool fans singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ in the seventh minute of their clash with United.

Even despite the footballing community showing that support, Ronaldo has admitted that it was the “worst moment of his life” since his father passed away. And he revealed that one of the things that hurt the most was not knowing why they had lost his baby son.

“Piers, probably the worst moments that I passed through my life, since my father die, you know, when you have a kid that you expect that everything will be normal, and you have that problem, it’s, it’s hard, you know, as human being that I am,” Ronaldo said.

“Georgina, we had quite difficult moments because we don’t understand why it happened to us. Was difficult to be honest, was very, very difficult to understand what’s going on, in that in that period of our life.

“As you know, the football carry on there, so fast, many competitions, the football don’t stop. We had many, many competitions. And pass through in that moment was probably the most difficult moment that I have in my life. Me and my family, especially Gio [Georgina Rodriguez], that was tough.”

Morgan replied: “It’s such a difficult situation again, where you’re mourning the terrible loss of your little baby boy. But also celebrating the birth of your beautiful daughter.”

Ronaldo added: “It’s crazy. I tried to explain sometimes to my family and even my close friends. I say, I never felt to be happy and sad in the same moment. I never felt. It is hard to explain.” Before Morgan sympathised: “So difficult.”

“It’s so difficult. It’s, you don’t know if you cry or you don’t know if you smile. Because it’s something that you don’t know how to react. You don’t know what to do, to be honest.”

The footballer, who is a devout Catholic, also revealed he keeps the ashes of his sone close. He added: “His ashes are with me, like my Daddy, they are here in the house.

“It is something that I want to hold for the rest of my life and not throw to the ocean or to the sea. I keep with me. They are next to my dad. I have a small church downstairs, a chapel, and I keep my daddy and my son there.”

At the time, Ronaldo paid tribute to the work of the medical staff who had tried to save his son and helped to deliver his twin sister. In a statement, he also gave an insight into the anguish his family were going through.

“It is with our deepest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” the statement said. “It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
