Credit Prince Andrew for seeking to make amends, says Archbishop Justin Welby

Prince Andrew has been praised for “seeking to make amends” by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who called on Britain to become a “more open and forgiving society”.

The Most Rev Justin Welby said it was understandable there were “very deep feelings” in instances where allegations of abuse have been made, but it was a “very good thing” that Prince Andrew was trying to make amends.

Andrew has consistently denied allegations that he sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre when she was 17. The undisclosed sum paid as a settlement to her in February came with no admission of guilt.
