Coyotes Acquire 9th Overall Pick, Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle from Canucks

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Arizona Coyotes General Manager Bill Armstrong announced today that the Coyotes have acquired forwards Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle as well as the ninth overall draft selection in the 2021 NHL Draft, a 2022 second round draft choice and a 2023 seventh round draft choice from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and forward Conor Garland.

“We are very pleased to acquire the ninth overall draft choice in this year’s NHL Draft along with Loui, Antoine and Jay. Jay is a Stanley Cup champion and along with Loui and Antoine, they are all solid veterans who will provide us with great leadership and experience.”
The 36-year-old Eriksson skated in seven games with the Canucks in 2020-21. The 6-foot-2, 179-pound forward has registered six seasons with 20-plus goals, including two seasons with 30 (2008-09 and 2015-16). The Gothenburg, SE native has totaled 250-344-594 and 194 penalty minutes (PIM) in 977 career NHL games with the Canucks, Bruins and Dallas Stars. Eriksson was originally drafted by the Stars in the second round (33rd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
The 31-year-old Roussel collected 1-3-4 and 37 PIM in 35 games with Vancouver in 2020-21. The 5-foot-11, 199-pound native of Roubaix, FRA has totaled 81-108-189 and 1004 PIM in 554 career NHL games with the Dallas Stars and Canucks. He signed as a free agent with the Stars on July 2, 2012.
The 35-year-old Beagle registered 1-4-5 and eight PIM in 30 games with Vancouver this season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Calgary, AB has posted 57-85-142 with 223 PIM in 613 career NHL games with the Canucks and Washington Capitals. He tallied 2-6-8 in 23 postseason games in 2017-18 to help the Capitals win the Stanley Cup.
Ekman-Larsson recorded 128-260-388 and 482 PIM in 769 career games with Arizona. He was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Garland totaled 47-49-96 and 58 PIM in 164 career games with the Coyotes. He was originally drafted by Arizona in the fifth round (123rd overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
