COVID-19: Ontario reports 4,362 new cases, 251 in Ottawa

As Ontarians face a new lockdown unprecedented in its scope, the COVID-19 numbers driving those measures remain high.
The province reported 4,362 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday with 251 cases in Ottawa. Ottawa Public Health issues its own totals later in the day, which can differ from the province’s totals because the data are collected at different times.
While high, the totals were lower than Friday, when Ontario reported 4,812 new cases, a record daily high.
The province said there are 2,065 people in hospital with COVID-19 across the province, 726 of them in intensive care. Of those, 501 were on ventilators.
There were 34 more COVID-19 deaths — a one-day increase of 36 per cent cent — bringing the pandemic’s death toll in Ontario to 7,698.
In other regions in the Ottawa area, Eastern Ontario reported 34 new cases, Kingston health unit had nine new cases, Leeds Grenville had 18 new cases.
There were no new cases reported in Renfrew county & district over the previous 24 hours.
Ontario announced new restrictions Friday to blunt the spread of COVID-19 that will close provincial borders, extend the province’s stay-at-home order, shut down outdoor recreational amenities, halt non-essential construction and give new powers to police and bylaw officers
High COVID-19 case rates will continue throughout the summer, Ontario science advisory table warned, unless stronger measures were introduced and support provided for essential workers and high-risk communities.

The Moodie Care and Testing Centre: Open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Heron Care and Testing Centre: Open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Ray Friel Care and Testing Centre: Open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Howard Darwin Centennial Arena on Merivale Road: The site will remain open for at least two weeks, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for anyone older than four. Those wanting to be tested must make an appointment by calling 1-877-232-8828, a line scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
