Coventry Community Chorus Spring Concert returns June 2 in Limerick Township
Coventry #Coventry
May 27—LIMERICK — Join the Coventry Community Chorus as it serenades the public with a variety of famous choral music spanning the decades.
The Spring Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at St. James United Church of Christ, 321 S. Limerick Road.
Spirituals, American folk songs, patriotic tunes, Broadway, and ballads highlight the evening. Songs made famous by Cole Porter, Franz Haydn, Barry Manilow as well as many other of America’s great composers and singers.
The Coventry Chorus is a local group of talented men and women who love to sing. The group accepts all singers, no matter their skill level and although small in number, the sound is beautiful. The group was founded by George Myers and has been performing for the community for over 15 years.
Myers has stepped down this year as director of the chorus, who can blame him at 86 years young? In his tenure, Myers not only directed over 100 talented singers, but he also took the time to personally work with several of the members who had never sung in a group before. Myers taught music and directed the musicals at Phoenixville High School for many years.
The group is now led by multi-talented Jim Tay, who not only conducts but really knows how to tickle the ivories. Tay is one of the area musicians who was a recipient of George’s talent at Phoenixville. Jim has played the piano throughout the area and has extensive conducting experience.
The concert is free, although a donation will be gratefully accepted. At the end of the concert, the chorus will be celebrating Myers’ tenure with a short dedication and a celebration with cake, appetizers and treats. Everyone is invited and encouraged to stay to celebrate George Myers.
