Collin Sexton steps up in overtime, as the Cleveland Cavaliers upset the Brooklyn Nets in double overtime on Wednesday.

The talk entering Wednesday’s game was that the Brooklyn Nets’ Big 3 of James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant would take the court for the first time this season. Many expected it to be “scary hours” for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but young point guard Collin Sexton had other thoughts about that.

The Cavaliers pulled off the 147-135 victory over the powerhouse Nets in double overtime on Wednesday night, thanks to a career-high 42 points from Sexton, including 20 straight in a stretch spanning the two overtime periods.

Sexton was an unstoppable force that the Nets had no answer for throughout the extra periods. Down 127-124 in overtime, Sexton managed to shoot a 3-pointer over Irving to tie the game with 1.2 seconds remaining to extend the contest.

The dominance continued in the second overtime, as he scored 15 straight points, 12 of which came behind the arc. Those who couldn’t stop any of those 3-point shots include Joe Harris, Jeff Green, Irving and Durant! The key to wining is to feed the hot hand, and the Cavaliers were smart in giving the ball to Sexton because he was an automatic bucket.

In 38 minutes of playing time, Sexton made shot 16-for-29 from the field and 5-for-11 from 3-point land to score a career-high 42 points, grab 5 boards, record 5 assists and get 2 steals.

With this win, the Cavaliers have reached .500 with a 7-7 record and secured sixth-place in the Eastern Conference standings. But when we look back at this contest, it will forever be known as the “Collin Sexton Game,” and for good reason.
