Dawn Staley apologized to the basketball community on Sunday after an on-court scuffle between South Carolina and LSU unraveled the final minutes of the SEC Tournament championship game.

South Carolina remains undefeated after beating LSU to win the SEC Tournament in back-to-back years. However, something that should have been a huge celebratory moment for Dawn Staley’s young squad was quickly overshadowed after a skirmish broke out on the floor during the fourth quarter. After a nearly 20-minute delay, referees ejected multiple players, leaving both teams shorthanded for the final six minutes of regulation. After the game, Staley went to find LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson (a player directly impacted by the scuffle) to speak with her before she spoke with ESPN to apologize to the basketball community for what they witnessed.

Fans loved that Staley immediately apologized and took accountability for her team. They also loved how she was able to eloquently explain what happened on the court.
