Cold and quiet Presidents’ Day in CNY, then a big warm up through this week
Happy Presidents #HappyPresidents
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Happy Presidents’ Day, which is the date of our first president’s birthday, George Washington. Today is a great day to get outside and enjoy the snow that CNY picked up over the weekend, especially since schools are closed on this holiday.
Over the past 24 hours, most of CNY got a fresh coating to 1 inch of snow. Up to 2-3 inches of snow across the southern hills.
The most snow was picked up across the North Country, around 6-12 inches across the Tug Hill, Northern Oneida, Northeastern Oswego, Lewis and Jefferson counties.
The snow has finally stopped for most spots this morning, and lingering flurries are tapering off as a cold front exits to the southeast. Behind this cold front, we will get drier and colder air moving down into CNY from Canada.
Temperatures after starting in the upper teens will only reach the mid to upper 20s this afternoon. Although, because of a light breeze the wind chill or feels like temperature will be near 10 degrees this morning to the upper teens this afternoon.
As high pressure over Canada drops down into CNY over the next couple of days, we will get a return to sunshine. Plus, warmer air that is building into the Midwest today will be gradually moving into CNY this week.
After today, temperatures will warm up through the rest of the work week. Highs will be in the upper 30s Tuesday, mid 40s Wednesday and Thursday, then lower 40s Friday. Keep in mind, normally high temperatures should be in the lower to mid 30s this time of year in CNY.
Looking ahead to our next batch of rain later this week, then a big cool down this weekend with our next chance for snow. CLICK HERE for a look at the extended forecast on our Weather Authority page!
