Cobra Kai co-creators Josh Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald have teased their next Netflix project. The project, a television show by the name of Obliterated, is set to be executive produced and creatively run by the three men, with the three of them also splitting directing duties on various episodes.

With the immense success that Cobra Kai has enjoyed, Schlossberg and Hurwitz have been tapped for a number of new projects. The trio has, for instance, recently been signed on to create a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off about the two valets who take the iconic Ferrari for a joyride, entitled Sam and Victor’s Day Off. Instead of ’80s nostalgia pieces, however, the three men mostly did exclusively R-Rated comedies in their earlier careers.

Those R-Rated comedies are what Obliterated harkens back to. As per GamesRadar+, Hurwitz reiterated that Obliterated will not be family-friendly, unlike Cobra Kai. Instead, he said that it would be more like a summer action blockbuster like Die Hard. “We always say it’s Die Hard meets The Hangover meets 24,” Hurwitz said. Schlossberg chipped in to say that it is similar to Cobra Kai in its abundance of action sequences but still characterized the two as very different.

With Cobra Kai, he stated that martial arts and hand-to-hand combat were the main forms of action. Obliterated, on the other hand, will feature guns, bombs, and all sorts of artillery. Obliterated’s official summary, as released by Netflix, says the film is about “an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs and sex, the team discovers that the bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb, and save the world.”

This new tv show is a great departure from Cobra Kai, but it’s clear that Netflix has faith in the creative trio. Their work on Cobra Kai has led to five successful seasons, and giving them the reigns to their own, original universe is doubtlessly a chance for Netflix to scour new ideas and create new IPs for their brand.

While casting is currently underway, and no one has officially been revealed to be a part of the cast, it would be interesting to see if any of Cobra Kai’s cast, which features veteran actors and up-and-coming stars alike, will be in Obliterated. Since the younger cast is growing up quickly, it could be a chance for some of them to flex their acting muscles and be a part of some more adult-oriented fare. On the other hand, Netflix may not want the Cobra Kai cast to take on these types of roles just yet. After all, Cobra Kai is still on the air.

Obliterated does not have an official release date, but will be available on Netflix.
