AEW have fired CM Punk following last Sunday’s backstage physical feud with Jack Perry, the company announced in a statement Saturday. Fans are now eager to see if the legendary wrestler will retiurn to the WWE.
“All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has terminated the wrestler and employment agreement of Phillip Brooks (CM Punk) and AEW with cause, effective immediately. The termination was confirmed today by Tony Khan, CEO, General Manager and Head of Creative of AEW,” the statement reads.
Punk, 44, debuted at AEW in 2021, seven years after leaving WWE. He also joined the UFC in 2016, but never returned after a pair of disappointing fights.
Upon his return to AEW, which made waves in the wrestling community, CM Punk warned everyone he wanted a peaceful environment in the locker room.
He reportedly threatened to quit the company after the Perry altercation. CM Punk is believed to have attempted a chokehold after pushing him, leading to the ensuing spat.
Multiple sources claimed Perry would receive most of the blame due to poking the bear with comments about CM Punk, but the exact opposite happened.
AEW investigated the incident and decided to fire CM Punk, who recently uploaded a photo alongside WWE superstar Rey Mysterio.
The pair snapped the picture at the Cauliflower Alley Club in Las Vegas during the “Iron Mike Mazurki Award” ceremony.
There is no official word as of now about CM Punk joining the WWE.
