Christian Horner confirms talks with McLaren about engine supply

Starting in 2026, and in association with Ford, Red Bull has been one of the manufacturers of Formula 1 driving units. For now, it is only foreseeable that it will supply its own teams – Red Bull and AlphaTauri – but it is also open to having customers.
Proof of this are the conversations held with McLaren. The Woking line-up sees its contract with Mercedes expire at the end of 2025 and has not yet decided which path to follow – when Honda could also reenter the premier category.
According to the website f1i.com, Christian Horner, team leader at Red Bull, confirmed that discussions with McLaren when asked about the recent visit of the rival’s executive director, Zak Brown, to the headquarters of the Rubrotaurinos in Milton Keynes:
— It is obvious that, as a manufacturer of drive units for 2026, it is inevitable that discussions will take place regarding the potential supply of a drive unit. It’s only natural for us to talk to potential customers. ‘
