Manchester United cruised through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after seeing off Reading on Saturday evening.

Erik ten Hag fielded a strong lineup for the match at Old Trafford, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes all in the starting XI.

And United proved to be too strong for the Championship outfit as they prevailed 3-1 winners.

Goals from Casemiro (2) and Fred gave United a three-goal lead midway through the second half.

Amadou Salif Mbengue pulled one back for The Royals but it proved to be only a consolation as United sealed their progression to the next round.

Unfortunately for United, it wasn’t all good news as one of their key players, Christian Eriksen, was forced off through injury.

The Danish midfielder was on the wrong end of a hefty challenge from Andy Carroll early in the second half.

Carroll lost the ball with a heavy touch and, in a desperate attempt to win possession back, wiped out Eriksen.

Eriksen was in some pain and needed to be substituted. He was replaced by Fred. Watch the moment below…

Somehow, Carroll was not even booked for his challenge on Eriksen.

He was sent off later in the game after picking up two yellow cards.

Eriksen was spotted leaving Old Trafford on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the match.

Erik ten Hag was asked about Eriksen’s injury after the match.

“It’s always difficult to say in this moment so short after the game has finished,” he said, per Man United’s official website.

“But it’s an ankle [problem]. We have to see what is the diagnosis, so it costs us a minimum of 24 hours before we know that and then I can say more.”

Eriksen has been superb since signing on a free transfer from Brentford last summer.

United will be hoping the injury is not serious and he is back on the pitch as soon as possible.
