“I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”

This will be good news to United, who will be playing in the Europa League next season.

That’s thanks to last season’s sixth placed finish following a dreadful campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Not being in Europe’s elite has impacted United in deals so far, with it being reported as a block in the Darwin Nunez chase before he finalised on a move to Liverpool.

It has also impacted the Frenkie de Jong deal as he originally wanted to remain in the Champions League, but reports in recent days have suggested that he has warmed to Erik ten Hag’s proposal.

The midfielder had 90 assists during his time at Tottenham and continued to show his class last season with Brentford, where he bagged four assists in 10 starts.
