CHRIS SUTTON: Liverpool were at their ruthless best as they thrashed Crystal Palace… West Brom and Newcastle must be wondering what is in store for them

Liverpool #Liverpool

  • Liverpool were at their ruthless best as they won 7-0 away to Crystal Palace
  • West Brom and Newcastle must be wondering what lies in store for them
  • Liverpool looked like champions in waiting as they won superbly on Saturday
  • This was Liverpool at their ruthless best. Eight shots on target, seven goals. Crystal Palace aren’t an easy team to play. They’re a stubborn bunch under Roy Hodgson.

But Liverpool wiped the floor with them — despite their injuries, despite Mohamed Salah starting on the bench, despite the fact it kicked off at Jurgen Klopp’s least favourite time of 12.30pm.

Selhurst Park holds bad memories for Liverpool — that 3-3 Crystanbul classic in 2014 was so painful for them.

But there was no chance of them letting this lead slip. They never settled for a win. They wanted goal after goal, and they got them.

It’s remarkable that all seven strikes were assisted by different players. Their next opponents, West Bromwich then Newcastle, must be wondering what’s in store for them.

Fireman Sam has rocked up at the Hawthorns and with this win and that 2-1 victory over Tottenham, Liverpool have shown in the past week they are on fire.

In Saturday’s newspaper, I explained that I was sticking with my pre-season prediction of Manchester City for the title. It was a very big win for City at Southampton, and Liverpool must go there themselves on January 4.

But Klopp’s side played like champions in waiting on Saturday.
