Chris Schultz, Former NFL Lineman and Canadian TV Sports Analyst, Dies at 61

Chris Schultz, the former Dallas Cowboys lineman who appeared as a CFL on TSN analyst on Canadian TV for over two decades, has died. He was 61.

“The football world has lost one of its most dedicated players and kindest souls. Chris Schultz, a former Toronto Argonaut and Dallas Cowboy, as well as a part of TSN’s coverage of the CFL, died of a heart attack on March 4,” the Canadian Football League said Friday in a statement.

Born on Feb. 16, 1960, in Burlington, Ontario, Schultz after a high school football career signed with the University of Arizona. In 1983, he was drafted by the Cowboys, with whom he played as a left tackle for three seasons.

In 1986, Schultz returned home to play in the CFL for the Argonauts over nine seasons. Starting in 1998, he became a mainstay of CFL on TSN telecasts as a CFL and NFL football analyst on Canada’s The Sports Network cable sports channel.

Schultz offered weekly predictions on NFL game scores during TSN’s Sportscentre segment Risky Business. He was also a longtime supporter and spokesperson for Purolator Tackle Hunger, a program dedicated to supporting local food banks across Canada.
