The Pet Shop Boys are making their first Glastonbury Performance since 2010 tonight (June 26). However, the iconic duo began their set without half of their act as Chris Lowe didn’t take to the stage.

Fans of the duo immediately took to social media to react to the situation as Neil Tennant was left to perform alone. Most Twitter users were questioning where he was, while other’s were left concerned for Chris Lowe.

@VeryAtheist said: “I’m trying to enjoy #ThePetShopBoys at #Glastonbury2022 but Chris Lowe’s whereabouts is distracting me too much.” @toonlifehurts added: “Where’s Chris Lowe?”

Other social media users found some humour in the situation. @itzthefitz joked: “Any sign of Chris Lowe , Pet Shop Boys #Glastonbury2022”.

Plenty of theories were posited by other fans as they looked to explain his absence. @donnerheid suggested: “Never one to avoid a good costume, Chris Lowe came as Long Covid.”

@Flying_Inside took the band’s name to heart and said: “People asking where Chris Lowe is for this set – please try to bear in mind that their main business is the pet shop and it simply has to take priority over their musical sideline.”

And finally, carrying the spirit of the pandemic into 2022, @MBombaros said: “Chris Lowe is on mute on the Zoom call.”

Lowe eventually did appear on stage, but no explanation has yet been offered for his absence. Neil Tennant had referred to a “technical difficulty”.
