Chiefs’ Justin Reid showed perfect timing as he blocked a Broncos field-goal attempt

Safety Justin Reid left briefly in the first half of the Chiefs’ game Sunday against the Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High, but he returned and made a big play on special teams.

Denver took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove deep into Chiefs territory. The Chiefs defense stopped the Broncos at the Kansas City 13-yard line by sacking quarterback Russell Wilson.

That set up a 38-yard field goal attempt by Wil Lutz, which is well within the range of any NFL kicker.

But Reid showed perfect timing as he took off as the ball was snapped and blocked Lutz’s kick.

CBS Sports’ Kevin Harlan noted the Reid previously blocked a field-goal attempt while with the Houston Texans.

Some people asked on social media if Reid was the first player in NFL history to kick a field goal and block one. Alas, Reid has only made an extra-point attempt (last season at Arizona). He has never attempted a field goal in a regular-season game.
