Chiefs’ Andy Reid was not happy when Travis Kelce spiked his helmet on sideline

Chiefs #Chiefs

In what has been a frustrating season, the first half of the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game was perhaps the most aggravating of all.

The Chiefs offense looked sluggish and the Raiders scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in taking a 10-point lead. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes lit a fire under the offensive line at one point, and late in the first half tight end Travis Kelce angrily spiked his helmet on the sideline.

Kelce was displeased that the Chiefs were forced to punt again and his helmet went flying as this CBS Sports video shows.

The good news for Kelce is the Chiefs didn’t actually punt and Tommy Townsend threw an 11-yard pass to Justin Watson that got a first down.

This was a dart (video from the NFL).

On the first play following the successful fake punt, Kelce was not on the field. The reason? Chiefs coach Andy Reid didn’t let Kelce get his helmet back right away (CBS Sports video).

Reid then spoke to Kelce and he did return to the game, catching a pass after the incident. But the drive ended with a missed field goal seconds before the half, and there were some boos at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
