Chelsea level undesirable feats as Wolves dump further woes on Mauricio Pochettino in Christmas Eve clash

Chelsea suffered a fourth Premier League away defeat in a row as they lost to Wolves on Christmas Eve.

Gary O’Neil’s side inflicted a 2-1 loss on the Blues, who currently sit in tenth in the Premier League table, with Mario Lemina finding the net in the 51st minute before Matt Doherty doubled their lead in the second minute of added time of the second half.

Christopher Nkunku marked his Premier League debut with a goal in the sixth minute of added time, but the Blues failed to muster up a comeback.

That was under Claudio Ranieri, when the Blues suffered five consecutive defeats on the road in the league.

Chelsea have now lost 19 Premier League games in 2023, the same amount of defeats Bournemouth have suffered this year.

The only times the Blues lost more Premier League games was in 1993 (20) – that’s with two games left to play this calendar year, too.

Chelsea face Crystal Palace at home on December 27, before they travel to Luton on December 30.

In addition to these undesirable feats, the 2021 Champions League winners have also conceded 58 Premier League goals in 2023 – their joint most in a calendar year, along with 1994.

This is all despite them spending £758.5m on transfers in the two windows this year.
