Chelsea boss Frank Lampard sends Timo Werner message after big miss in Fulham win
Werner #Werner
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has urged Timo Werner to keep working hard after the striker drew another Premier League blank in the 1-0 victory over west London rivals Fulham. Scott Parker’s side played half of the match with 10 men after Antonee Robinson was given a straight red card for a dangerous tackle just before the break.
The two teams were cancelling each other out until that point with the host having the best of the opening chances.
After half-time Chelsea began to turn the screw and finally got the breakthrough when Mount struck from the edge of the box.
Lampard’s afternoon could have been a lot more comfortable had Werner added a second when he was sent racing through on goal.
The out-of-form Germany international skewed his shot wide as he extended his Premier League scoring drought to 10 matches.
However, Lampard wants his summer signing to keep going to end his dry spell.
“It is absolutely normal in a striker’s life to have tough moments, and Timo Werner is having a tough moment,” Lampard said.
“I was happy to see him running through and getting into those areas. I have seen him bury those chances for the last three years in Germany, I know the quality he has.
“I am happy he went through. He must keep his head up and he will have the ultimate support from me.
“Timo will have nights like tonight where he scores loads.”
