Chelsea’s 25-year-old defender Malang Sarr was closing in on a move to Le Havre but the Blues blocked his exit on deadline day.

According to Josué Cassé, Malang Sarr was keen on parting ways with Chelsea in the winter transfer window. He was close to making a move to French club Le Havre on the deadline day but unfortunately, that hasn’t gone according to plan. He will have to stay at the English club until the end of the season.

Sarr came up the ranks at OGC Nice, he made it to their first team in the summer of 2016. After four successful years with the French club’s first team, he made the move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020.

Since joining the English club, he has only featured in a total of 21 matches. He has failed to establish himself in their first team and has had two loan spells away from the club. He was out on loan at AS Monaco last season but the move didn’t really do him any good. There was a buy option in that deal but the French club decided against it.

Sarr hasn’t featured for Chelsea since returning to his parent club. Despite the managerial change at the club, nothing has changed for the 25-year-old. He is not in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino and despite that, the Blues have failed to find him a new destination.

Le Havre were looking to reinforce their defence in the ongoing transfer window and they were ready to offer Sarr an opportunity to revive himself. The player was keen on making the move and he was willing to take a huge pay cut to join the French outfit.

The move was expected to be completed before the end of the deadline day. But, unfortunately, the Blues decided to stand in the way. Sarr’s representatives were in talks with the London club to terminate his contract but Chelsea decided against it. As a result, the move didn’t go through and the 25-year-old might now have to wait until the end of the season to secure a move away from the club.
