Kalen DeBoer is taking over as Alabama’s head coach following Nick Saban’s retirement, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

DeBoer wrapped up an immensely successful season with Washington, overseeing one of the country’s top offenses while the Huskies made an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Washington owned the No. 2 passing attack in the nation, with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. finishing second in Heisman Trophy voting. In his two years with the school, DeBoer led the Huskies to a record of 25-3.

College football fans were impressed with athletic director Greg Byrne’s choice for Alabama’s next coach, foreseeing a high-powered offense in Tuscaloosa moving forward.

Although Alabama made an impressive run to the College Football Playoff by defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship game, the Crimson Tide’s offense struggled throughout the first few weeks of the year.

The addition of DeBoer could help quarterback Jalen Milroe build upon his tremendous end to the regular season, completing 67.1 percent of his passes and tossing 10 touchdowns against one interception in his final four starts before the CFP.

While it’ll be hard to replicate Saban’s legendary career, DeBoer seems prepared to keep Alabama at the top of the SEC.
