MILWAUKEE — Al Horford’s sister, Anna, knows that look — and she knew the 35-year-old Celtics big man was “pissed.” It was after Giannis Antetokounmpo had a huge dunk with Horford on him, and the two-time MVP had some words for Horford that eventually resulted in a tech.
But it was the aftermath of that play that took all the attention: Horford was nodding along saying “okay” to last season’s Finals MVP. And Horford got his revenge in the form of a posterizing dunk on Antetokounmpo as part of a massive fourth quarter. Horford scored a playoff career-high 30 points to lead the Celtics to a huge Game 4 victory 116-108 over the Bucks.
That moment when Antetokounmpo had some words for Horford was when Anna said she knew it was all over.
“This is where the Bucks (expletive) up,” Anna Horford said in a tweet. “I know that look… He was pissed.”
The Celtics tied the Bucks 2-2 in the Eastern Conference semifinals Monday. While the C’s looked like they were going to be run off the court in a brutal third quarter, the Celtics and Horford bounced back in a big way. It was Horford’s impact that was so impressive as he looked like the best player on the court at times. Horford shot 11-for-14 from the field and he led the team with a plus-20 in his 42 minutes on the court.
Horford looked especially pumped up after his dunk on Antetokounmpo. He was screaming and even picked up a technical foul on the play after review. But Boston coach Ime Udoka said that play energized the team as the Celtics look to win Game 5 back in Boston, which is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.
“He’s been great all year, but we really needed him to step up with guys being out,” Udoka said of Horford. “He took that on his shoulders. They guard him a certain way, he’s able to attack, love the aggressiveness.”
