A Memorandum of Agreement on the hosting of Cebu City of the “Palarong Pambansa 2024” was signed between Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama at the Cebu City Hall.

No particular date of the event was disclosed.

Vice President Duterte underscored she has no influence in the choosing of Cebu City as host. In fact, she is very glad that the “Queen City of the South” made it in the bidding process.

“Nangutana ko kinsay midaug? Pagkahibawo nako nga Cebu City — hay salamat, Lord, thank you Señor Santo Niño,” Vice President Duterte expressed.

She vowed strong support to have the dreams of participants in the athletic events fulfilled.

“Our primary goal is to equip them with the necessary tools to nurture discipline, resilience, and the indomitable spirit required to pursue their athletic passion,” Duterte added.

Mayor Rama said he acknowledges the significance of the Palarong Pambansa, that is why he deemed it necessary for Cebu City to take an active role in the event.

“We should make it happen and in the name of Santo Niño we should be united in this activity,” he said.

After the ceremonial signing and photo opportunity on February 2, 2024, Duterte left ahead and did not grant any media interview.

VP Duterte visited the Cebu Provincial Capitol that day where she had a meeting with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who pledged Capitol support to the “Palarong Pambansa 2024.”

This year would be the third opportunity for Cebu City to host the Palarong Pambansa; first was in 1954, and second in 1994.
