CDPR, the developers for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher III, have been hacked and threatened with further action.

Over the last 24 hours, the CDPR Team discovered the attack on their internal systems and chose to publically address the issue.

In a Twitter post, CD Projekt Red discuss several key points of the breach alongside sharing the “ransom note” left by the actors in the Cyber Attack.

Personal Data

When anyone reads that a gaming company has been hacked, it almost becomes second nature to worry that this is a personal data breach.

Although the situation of CDPR being hacked could continue to worsen, the developer has confirmed in its statement that “to [their] best knowledge” no personal data was lost.

CDPR still appear to be expecting some compromised data to be leaked after reinforcing their position against the actors acting against them.

As of writing, we do not have confirmation regarding which internal systems were accessed and what information was compromised.

Ransom Note

Alongside their own statement, CDPR has decided to share the “ransom note” they were left with following the attack on their internal systems.

It reads that they have been “epically pwned” and lists some of the information that has been accessed. Whether this is accurate or not is another matter.

HACKED – The Ransom Note CDPR Found Following Cyber Attack

The hackers have reportedly “encrypted all of [CDPR’s] servers”, dumping a large portion of the company’s administration files across a number of departments.

In addition to this, it seems that they have “dumped FULL copies of the source codes from [their] Preforce servers”.

The “ransom note” also mentions that demands have been made, however, this information has not been revealed yet.

Full CDPR Statement

Below, you can see the full statement given by CDPR in response to the Cyber Attack:

” Yesterday we discovered that we have become a victim of a targeted cyberattack, due to which some of our internal systems have been compromised.

” An unidentified actor gained unauthorized access to our internal network, collected certain data belonging to CD PROJEKT capital group, and left a ransom note the content of which we release to the public. Although some devices in our network have been encrypted, our backups remain intact. We have already secured our IT infrastructure and begun restoring the data.”

” We will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data. We are taking necessary steps to mitigate the consequences, in particular by approaching any parties that may be affected due to the breach.”

” We are still investigating the incident, however at this time, we can confirm that – to our best knowledge – the compromised systems did not contain any personal data of our players or users of our services. “

” We have already approached the relevant authorities, including law enforcement and the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, as well as IT forensic specialists, and we will closely cooperate with them in order to fully investigate this incident.”
