Aston Villa entertained Chelsea at Villa Park earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a positive result at home in the Premier League. The Villans made a slow start to the contest and conceded the opening goal in the 11th minute when Conor Gallagher found the back of the net. Nicolas Jackson doubled Chelsea’s advantage just ten minutes as Unai Emery’s men went into the half-time break 2-0 down on the scoreline.

Enzo Fernandez scored another goal for the visitors in the 54th minute before Moussa Diaby got a goal back for Aston Villa in injury-time. The West Midlands club ended up crashing to a disappointing 3-1 loss in front of their home fans.

GK: Emiliano Martinez – 6.5/10

The Argentine keeper made a handful of solid saves at the back but still conceded three goals tonight.

Cash caught the eye at times in both halves and his efforts were not enough.

CB: Diego Carlos – 6/10

He made his fair share of clearances but failed to keep things solid inside his half.

CB: Clement Lenglet – 6/10

Lenglet was far from convincing on the defensive end of the field.

Moreno produced a lackluster display defensively but made one good chance from the left flank.

CM: Boubacar Kamara – 6/10

The French talent anchored the midfield well at times but failed to make an impact in the opponent’s half.

CM: Douglas Luiz – 6.5/10

Luiz earned possession back twice and had a couple of lively moments in the final third.

RW: Leon Bailey – 6.5/10

He caused some headaches for his marker but didn’t do enough to register a goal.

CAM: Youri Tielemans – 6/10

He made one decent chance up top and was replaced in the 70th minute.

LW: John McGinn – 6.5/10

McGinn caused some problems for the Chelsea defenders but failed to take any of his chances.

ST: Ollie Watkins – 6.5/10

He worked hard in the opponent’s half but there was no goal for him tonight.

CM: Jacob Ramsey – 6.5/10

Ramsey picked up an assist for setting up Diaby’s later goal.

ST: Moussa Diaby – 7/10
