Baker Mayfield looks like he has a new home.
Cleveland is trading the quarterback to the Carolina Panthers for a 2024 fifth-round pick, according to Ian Rapoport. The deal is pending the outcome of a physical.
Mayfield, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, threw for 14,125 yards and 92 touchdowns in four years for the Browns.
Mayfield joins a quarterback room with Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker.
According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Browns will pay Mayfield $10.5 million this season, which means they trimmed more than $8 million in cash and salary-cap space. The Panthers will pay Mayfield $5 million. The quarterback, per the report, agreed to trim $3.5 million off his base salary.
The Panthers plays the Browns on Sept. 11.
