Carole Harrington: Remembering Maggie Peterson

I was saddened to hear about the death of Maggie Peterson, who played the part of Charlene Darling on The Andy Griffith Show.

I have been a Mayberry fan for many years and have attended numerous reunions in North Carolina. At one of those get-togethers, I stood in line for a while to get Maggie’s autograph and when I got to her, I said, “I’m from Greeley, Colorado!”

She grabbed me, hugged me and we chatted briefly. As I was turning to leave, she said, “Greeley is our own little Mayberry!”

I will never forget her. My condolences to her family.
