Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy had revealed they wanted to sign French striker Yaya Sanogo, but failed due to red tape.
Sanogo, the former Arsenal player, instead joined Huddersfield on a deal until the end of the current season.
The 28-year-old missed a penalty as Huddersfield held McCarthy’s Cardiff to a goalless draw in the Championship.
