Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion’s provocative ‘WAP’ Grammys performance draws praise, concern
Cardi #Cardi
Once again, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s explicit song “WAP” has everyone talking.
During the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, the two rappers performed their hit single, which famously made waves on social media after it dropped in August for its provocative lyrics.
Grammys host Trevor Noah prepped the audience ahead of the performance, advising, “If you have small children in the room, just tell them it’s a song about giving a cat a bath.”
Donning a neon purple two-piece, Cardi B kicked off the song by dancing against a pole, fashioned as the stiletto of a giant high heel, before being joined by a group of backup dancers.

Megan Thee Stallion then hit the stage for her verse in a tight purple one-piece. The two rappers later appeared on a massive bed, crawling and intertwining their legs as they danced together.

“Always here for Megan Thee Stallion & Cardi B. Two of the most unique & talented artists working in music today,” wrote radio broadcaster Robert Ford.
“Ok but this move with Queen @iamcardib and Queen @theestallion was too FIRE,” wrote rapper Justina Valentine, along with a photo of the rappers on the bed.
User @BardinitterWW called it “the best performance of the night.”
“Thank you Cardi for giving us joy in such dark times,” the user continued.

But the risqué performance also drew backlash.
“The left is fine with the disgusting performance Cardi B just gave at the Grammys but Dr. Seuss is too dangerous for our children?” asked conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Earlier this month, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that six of the children’s book author’s titles will no longer be sold because of racist and insensitive imagery.

“Wow this is on network TV,” wrote CNN senior editor Brandon Griggs, along with a photo of the rappers dancing on the large bed.
“I’m a pretty laid back person, but having WAP featured on the #GRAMMYs is absolutely disgusting and ridiculous,” wrote @AMarkhamRivals.
Some Twitter users expressed concern for kids who may have been watching the awards show.
“i truly hope no children were watching the WAP performance..” wrote @courtneywyn18.
“WAP!! At the #GRAMMYs,” wrote @Saccole. “really where is the reserved decency and honor for our children! There’s a time and place for everything ppl! This was neither for this song. No class #GRAMMYs.”
