Chocolate fans have been left devastated after finding out that Nestlé has scrapped one of its most iconic bars.
The confectionary giant has confirmed that it has made the “difficult decision” to discontinue its Caramac chocolate bar, first launched in 1959, after it saw a steady decline in sales in recent years.
Pastel, a Scottish bakery based in Newtongrange, was the first to confirm the news on Facebook after it shared a post to explain how it was stocking up on the bar after they found out would no longer be available.

The bakery wrote: “So it’s a sad day, it’s official, there will be no more Caramac bars off the production line.
“It’s been cancelled so I bought as many boxes as I could! They should last a while (I hope) but once they are gone, there will be no more caramac eclairs! And no, caramilk or Milkybar gold are not the same!!!”
Despite claims that the poster was making it up, Pastel shared an email from Nestlé confirming the sad news, reports BristolLive.
A Nestlé spokesperson told the Daily Record: “We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Caramac. There has been a steady decline in its sales over the past few years and unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.
“We know fans will be disappointed to see it go, but this change will enable us to focus on our best-performing brands, as well as develop exciting new innovations to delight consumers’ tastebuds.”

With the iconic bar being a staple since 1959, the news was quickly met with thousands of comments from shoppers who were left devastated that it would no longer be available.
One shopper wrote: “No, no, no! I love this stuff.”
A second upset fan said: “What a disgrace how many more of our favourite chocolates are going to disappear my hubby loves these.”
While a third added: “End of an era.”
And a fourth unhappy fan wrote: “Let’s get a petition going.”
The popular caramel-based chocolate bar, which was first created by Mackintosh’s, was named due to its combination of its creator and main ingredient. Unlike many other similar treats, it does not contain any cocoa, which is a popular ingredient for many chocolate bars.
It’s not the only chocolate treat to disappear from store shelves this year, as Cadbury’s treatsize packs of Dairy Milk Buttons were also discontinued due to “changing consumer trends” earlier this year.
