EUGENE, Ore.—Canada finally won a gold medal at the world track and field championships — and beat the Americans to do it.

Andre De Grasse ran a blistering final leg to bring the men’s 4×100-metre relay team across the line in a world-leading time of 37.48 seconds. The Americans took silver in 37.55 seconds, and Britain the bronze in 37.83.

This team of De Grasse, Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake and Brendon Rodney won silver at the Tokyo Games, but was elated with the upgrade to gold.
