TOKYO — The tears were flowing before the result was official.
Canada’s Jen Abel and Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu delivered a clutch performance in the three-metre synchronized springboard final at Tokyo 2020, earning a silver medal.
Abel and Citrini-Beaulieu shared an emotional hug immediately after their final dive, seemingly certain they had sealed a spot on the podium.
China won gold.
The diving duo of Abel and Citrini-Beaulieu claimed Canada’s second medal of the day at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre. Earlier, in the swimming pool, Penny Oleksiak & Co. captured silver in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay.
