TOKYO — Noah Lyles entered the 200-meter final at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday as the favorite. Erriyon Knighton arrived as the 17-year-old wunderkind, the teenager breaking Usain Bolt’s records.

But instead it was Canada’s Andre de Grasse who won the men’s 200 at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday in a time of 19.62 seconds, claiming gold in a marquee event that Bolt had long dominated. 

Following close behind de Grasse were Kenneth Bednarek of the U.S., who crossed the finish line in 19.68 to win silver, and Lyles, who ran a 19.74 to take bronze.

Knighton finished fourth in 19.93

Bolt, who retired in 2017, had swept both the 100 and 200 in each of the past three Olympic Games. Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy won the 100-meter dash in shocking fashion earlier this week.
