Former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger believes former prime minister Tony Abbott should be a top candidate for the Senate vacancy in New South Wales.

Mr Kroger believes Tony Abbott would be the best person to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Jim Molan.

The position would last for five years.

Mr Abbott lost his lower house seat of Warringah at the 2019 election.
