Caleb Williams named a second-team preseason All-American

The hype is certainly real with the USC Trojan football program. One major reason is the leader of the 2022 offense, Oklahoma transfer quarterback Caleb Williams.

Williams followed Lincoln Riley to Southern California, and his arrival in Los Angeles has been met with a flood of media appearances and NIL deals, and Heisman Trophy buzz heading into next season.

Well, there’s more. According to Chris Trevino of 247Sports, Williams is the quarterback on the Walter Camp Preseason All-America Second Team.

To no one’s surprise, Alabama QB and Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young was the QB for the first team, but Williams beating out Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud is certainly a massive step in the right direction.

Last year with the Sooners, Williams took over for Spencer Rattler and played the final seven games, throwing for 20 touchdowns during that time.

With the Trojans, he should shatter that number, especially with one of the best wide receiver groups in the country: Mario Williams, Gary Bryant Jr., Jordan Addison, Tahj Washington, and Brenden Rice are leading this group.

Oh, and we haven’t even discussed Oregon transfer RB Travis Dye, who will make this offense even more dangerous and allow Williams to shine brightly in the L.A. spotlight.

The pressure might be on for Caleb Williams, but being named second-team All-American — especially over someone as good as Stroud — is quite the accomplishment.
