Kansas City is looking to become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the Patriots back in 2004-05. Mahomes is still the leading man in the NFL, the reigning NFL MVP after throwing for 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns a year ago. It’s hard to believe he’s only 27.
This is new territory for the Lions, as they’ve never played in the NFL Kickoff Game before. Quarterback Jared Goff made the Pro Bowl last year and the Lions feature young defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson, who had 9.5 sacks last year.
Caesars has the Chiefs as 6.5-point favorites and -320 on the moneyline. The over/under is pegged at 54.5. Last year in their 20 games, seven Chief games went over that number. The Lions played 17 games last year and eight went over 54.5.
There are also markets open like total TD passes for Mahomes Thursday (2.5) and Goff (1.5) and the first TD scorer. Kansas City went 9-11 against the spread last year while the Lions were 12-5.
They’ll unfurl the Super Bowl banner, shoot off some fireworks, and get Arrowhead Stadium rocking before kickoff, which is scheduled for 7:20 CT Thursday. NBC will have the broadcast.
