Jack Grealish and his Aston Villa teammates will have left Turf Moor scratching their heads as to how they failed to even secure a point.

The sensational Villa captain was left shell-shocked by the plucky Clarets as they came from 2-1 down to secure a 3-2 win

New Burnley owner Alan Pace will have been warned his new side are not the most prolific before making his home debut, with Sean Dyche’s side scoring just 10 goals all season before this clash.

Yet after ending Liverpool’s incredible four-year Anfield record in their previous outing, Dyche and his troops will have felt confident they could repeat the feat against Villa.

However, Grealish was pulling strings all over the pitch in the first 45 minutes in Lancashire – releasing Matt Targett to cross for summer signing Ollie Watkins to prod home his tenth of the season in all competitions.

The former Brentford striker could have doubled his tally for the evening were it not for the efforts of Nick Pope, with the England international repelling every effort his stubborn defence could not halt.

Burnley managed to grab an equaliser when captain Ben Mee managed to nod home Ashley Westwood’s corner, but Grealish then upped his game.

After being denied by Pope after a driving run, the creative midfielder did grab his seventh of the season after a great one-two with Douglas Luiz.

But the Clarets bit back again through Dwight McNeil as he found the bottom corner after a mazy run to draw parity, but the scoring was not over there.

The incredible turnaround was complete when McNeil turned provider as his cross landed perfectly on the head of Chris Wood to nod past the despairing dive of Emiliano Martinez.

Burnley’s resilience and grit proved to make for the perfect clash of style against Grealish and his mercurial Villa teammates, who had hoped to leapfrog Everton into seventh spot in the table.

After their incredible result on Merseyside, Burnley now find themselves an incredible nine points clear of the relegation zone and on course for another season in the top flight.
