Bukayo Saka had a brilliant message for Arsenal legends Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg after the Gunners’ win over Manchester United.

The Gunners star was a shining light against the Red Devils at the Emirates on Sunday night, scoring an absolute beauty to make it 2-1.

After dropping the shoulder, his effort from range left David de Gea stretching but there was nothing the Spaniard could do as the ball nestled into the bottom corner.

It meant that the 21-year-old has scored three times in a row against United, a penalty towards the end of last season and another strike in the reverse fixture earlier this campaign.

Saka has equalled the same record that Henry and Ljungberg did during their days at Arsenal and the England international had a cheeky message for the Gunners icons.

He told Sky Sports: “Hello Freddie, hello Thierry! I’m happy.

“I was so close to getting two but I’m just so happy I got that first one and it gave me confidence to keep shooting.”

The Gunners were stung early on when Marcus Rashford scored a screamer before Eddie Nketiah nodded past David de Gea.

Saka’s sensational strike was cancelled out by a Lisandro Martinez’s header following a mistake from Aaron Ramsdale but Nketiah won the match late on with a poacher’s effort.

Arsenal’s win means they go five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and have a game in hand over them as well.

It is also the club’s best start to a Premier League season ever after 19 games with 50 points – five points better than where the Invincibles in the 2003/04 season were at the same stage.

Saka added: “That’s really significant. It’s something we can be proud of but we have to stay humble. It’s only halfway through the season and things can change very quickly.

“But if we keep playing like we have then we’ll be in a good place at the end of the season, we just have to keep it up.

“You can see how much it means to everyone. [United] are the only team that have beaten us this season so we really wanted to beat them for the fans.

“We know how important this win is for us. It wasn’t easy and it definitely wasn’t our best start to the game but we showed a lot of character to come back and get the win.”

Arsenal face City next in the FA Cup on Friday night in a teaser clash before they meet in the Premier League next month, which could be significant in the title race.
