TAMPA — As expected, the Bucs have activated safety Logan Ryan off injured reserve, giving the injury-depleted secondary a veteran option tonight against the Saints.

In a corresponding move, the team waived undrafted rookie safety Nolan Turner, whose four NFL games were limited to special-teams duty.

Ryan, who hasn’t played since fracturing his foot late in Tampa Bay’s 41-31 loss to the Chiefs in Week 4, could be thrust into extensive duty tonight. Pro Bowler Antoine Winfield (ankle) and fourth-year veteran Mike Edwards (hamstring) both were deemed inactive prior to the game after being sidelined at practice all week.

Veteran Keanu Neal is the only other safety on the active roster.

Elsewhere, the team announced it is elevating cornerback Anthony Chesley and linebacker Ulysees Gilbert off the practice squad for tonight’s contest. With cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting (quad) also sidelined, Chesley and Dee Delaney could log action in nickel situations.
