BTS J-hope breathes fire in Arson as fans decode the meaning of lyrics

BTS J-hope has officially begun the coveted BTS chapter 2 with a sunshine-turned-fireball plot twist. Here’s all about his new title track Arson, the song lyrics’ meaning, and an overview of the significance of the Jack In The Box tracklist.

In Arson, J-hope unapologetically confesses, Let’s burn/ To my passion, burn/ To my hopes, burn/ My life, burn/ Every day I ran/ Couldn’t stop/ Back then/ I burned it all/ And I wanted it all/ Fame came first/ Money? Of course/ Popularity too/ Couldn’t help but go into overdrive/ The motivation behind my thoughtless ambition.”

In the second verse, he raps, I shower in petrol, “To set a fire/ On my feet, on my legs/ Even hotter, run my wayRecords heating up/ My popularity at the top/ And up goes my born haters/ Horns that ring every time/ But even this, I like/ ‘Cause with my fans/ With my label.”

“With my fellaz, We burn bright together.”

The lyrics of Arson can be interpreted as J-hope mirroring his experience of growing up as an artist where he constantly plays with the words burn and fire. While they burn bright as THE artists of the decade, their fire can also burn down the negativity that came from the fame of being on the top.

Speaking of the lyrics, a fan theorized, “I love how Hoseok used “arson” and “burning” and put different meanings to these words like, because they are superstars, they burn bright with their fans, burning the haters, and with this, he’s an arsonist. I love Arson.”
