Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron reveals what injury kept him out of Games 1-4

BOSTON — Patrice Bergeron missed Games 1 through 4 of the Bruins’ first-round series with a herniated disc in his back.

The Bruins’ captain revealed the injury after the Bruins’ Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers that ended Boston’s season in the first round of the playoffs, Sunday at TD Garden.

“That’s why I missed the four games. I tried to rush to come back,” he said and later added. “Missing four game was disappointing. Tried to do everything to come back.”

Bergeron said it won’t require surgery.

“It’s stiff, but it’s not something I’m going to use as an excuse,” he said. Everyone battles with a lot of things during the playoffs. It’s unfortunate the way that it happened on a fluke play.

He suffered the injury in the injury in the final regular season game against the Montreal Canadiens.

He had one goal in three postseason games against the Panthers.
