British and US embassies in Twitter spat over Weetabix and baked beans combination
Weetabix #Weetabix
British and US embassies are the latest social media accounts to weigh in on a controversial food pairing between Weetabix and Heinz baked beans.
Weetabix shared pictures on Twitter of Heinz baked beans slathered over two of its cereal biscuits. The tweet has since been shared and liked thousands of times.
The caption read: “Why should bread have all the fun, when there’s Weetabix? Serving up @HeinzUK Beanz on bix for breakfast with a twist. #ItHasToBeHeinz #HaveYouHadYourWeetabix”.
Yorkshire Tea, Amazon, Youtube, Warburtons, Lidl and Google were among the major companies sharing their surprise at the food pairing in the replies to the viral tweet.
The US Embassy tweeted that the pairing was not the US-UK “collaboration we were hoping for”.
To which the British embassy responded with: “Strong opinion from the nation that makes tea in a microwave.”
The US Embassy later followed up with a reply which referenced the viral Handforth Parish council Zoom call.
It said: “We’ve checked the Standing Orders…. And they say no beans on Weetabix. Read them and understand them @UKinUSA!”

The US and UK were not the only embassies to join the debate.
Israel’s Twitter account which is managed by the Israel’s foreign ministry’s digital diplomacy team, said: “Finally something that all Middle-Eastern countries can agree on. Just no. Also, want to know how you can upgrade your weetabix? Hummus. #HaveYouHadYourWeetabix.”
Tinder declared the pairing was “not a Match” and the NHS added a comment from its Twitter account, saying: “That tweet should come with a health warning”.
Sussex Police said “nothing warrants this” while West Yorkshire Police warned: “Even though this is criminal, please don’t ring us to report it.”
Fast food services added to the debate when Nando’s asked: “You okay hun? DM’s are open if you need to talk”.
To which KFC responded: “Let’s set aside our differences to prosecute this under the Geneva convention.”
Sainsbury’s also referenced the viral Handforth Parish Council Zoom call.
“Beans have no authority here, no authority AT ALL,” said Sainsbury’s on Twitter.
