Britain must not “yo-yo” in and out of lockdown, Dominic Raab has warned as the government prepares to delay the easing of restrictions on June 21 by up to a month.
The foreign secretary suggested that the “vast majority of people in this country” will accept a delay if it means that the nation can move out of lockdown “irreversibly”.
He said that the link between coronavirus infections and hospitalisations has been “weakened” but that there remains a question of whether it has been broken.
The prime minister will hold a press conference tomorrow evening to announce the delay after finalising his decision in Downing Street this evening.
