Brighton striker Neal Maupay MISSES penalty before going off INJURED in horror minute against Liverpool

Spare a thought for Neal Maupay this afternoon.

Inside a minute he missed a glorious chance to give Brighton the lead against Liverpool before leaving the match with an injury.

And moments later he went off injured

The Seagulls have caused the champions plenty of problems in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off and should have taken the lead on 20 minutes as they awarded a penalty.

Aaron Connolly, who earlier missed a chance when through on goal himself, made amends as he enticed Neco Williams into making a challenge which resulted in the Wales international tripping him in the box.

But Maupay couldn’t take Brighton’s chance as he put the ball wide despite sending Alisson Becker the wrong way.

But if that wasn’t bad enough, the Frenchman was forced to leave the pitch just a minute later with an injury.

And his match was over

The penalty miss proved to be Maupay’s last action in the match

It’s not clear what the injury is but there have been suggestions it’s something to do with his hamstring. He then cut a frustrated the figure as he left the match.

A huge let-off for Liverpool but the home side thought they found themselves behind when Mohamed Salah put the ball beyond Mat Ryan on 33 minutes.

However, Brighton were saved by VAR as replays showed that Salah’s toe was offside as Roberto Firmino played a ball over the top and the goal wasn’t given.
