Briefly milder late Thursday, early Friday ahead of another huge dip in temperatures

Good Thursday #GoodThursday

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Just when it tries to warm up, a second arctic front swings through the country sending temperatures plummeting again by Friday night and the weekend. This will bring a chance of a few showers Thursday night. A big warm up is in sight next week.

Sunny and very cold on this Thursday morning, but not as ridiculous as Wednesday. Lows are mostly in the upper teens and lower 20s. Clouds start to roll in as the afternoon progresses. It will be about 8-10 degrees warmer this afternoon compared to yesterday with highs near 50 degrees near West Point, around 53 in Columbus and Phenix City and approaching 55 near Shellman and Cuthbert.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a chance of showers starting this evening, through the overnight. While rain coverage will be around 40-50%, any rain will be very light and won’t amount more than a few hundredths of an inch in most spots. We’ll be around 45 to 50 degrees at daybreak Friday so it will be a lot warmer for now!

That second polar plunge is here for the weekend. The Storm Team 9 forecast calls for lows in the upper teens and lower 20s Saturday morning. Despite full sunshine Saturday, highs only reach 35-40 degrees. When the wind blows, it will feel like the teens and 20s most of Saturday. Widespread teens are a good bet Sunday morning with 40s in the afternoon.

A warming trend begins Monday. Lows will be in the 20s with highs in the 50s. Sure, clouds start to return. However, we should surpass 60 Tuesday and then be approaching 70 degrees Wednesday and Thursday. Along with that warm up, comes the potential for scattered showers and storms though.
