Fox & Friends host Brain Kilmeade immediately suggested the “stress” of the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah may have played a part in hampering Prince Philips’ recovery from a recent illness before his death aged 99.
While Fox News was presenting rolling coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Kilmeade made mention of the reports that Philip was “enraged” about the CBS interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The March 7 interview was broadcast while Prince Philip was recovering in a London hospital for an infection and pre-existing heart condition.
“So here he is trying to recover and he’s hit with that,” Kilmeade said.
The Fox News host also repeated criticism by former CNN host Piers Morgan about the Duchess of Sussex, made during Morgan’s Good Morning Britain show in March.
“Piers Morgan was saying on his morning show, which he famously walked off of….’Really?'” Kilmeade said.
“‘Your grandfather is in the hospital, you know he’s not doing well, is this really the time you have to put out this interview?’ Evidently, it definitely added to his stress.”
Among some of the explosive claims from the interview was how at least one member of the royal family expressed “concerns” about the potential skin tone of the Duke and Duchess’ son, Archie, and Prince Harry saying he has become so estranged from his family that his father Charles, the Prince of Wales, is not returning his calls.
Kilmeade also mentioned how Prince Philip showed “distaste” for his son Prince Andrew’s former wife Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, the Duchess of York, as she’s “a little different for the royal family’s tastes.”
In a statement confirming his death on April 9, Buckingham Palace said: “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
In a tweet praising Prince Philip, Morgan said: “A truly great Briton who dedicated his life to selfless public duty & was an absolute rock of devoted support to Her Majesty, The Queen, as the longest-serving royal consort to any British sovereign. A very sad day for our country. Thank you, Sir.”
